How Much Cake Do I need?

There are a two key factors to consider:
WHEN and HOW will the cake be served?

I have noticed a correlation between the time cake is served, how it is served, and how much cake is consumed. If cake is served directly to guests at the table, you will definitely need a slice for each guest but many slices will not be eaten. If cake is served on a dessert table for guests to help themselves, not everyone will take a slice. If cake is served immediately after dinner, more can will be consumed than if cake is served later in the evening, as guests have consumed more beverages, or departed for the evening.
