(Cup)Cake Decorating
There are endless options when it comes to (cup)cake decorating, but seemingly no perfect kit. Sure, Amazon sells starter kits, but the quality and durability of the tools is unknown. So, I recommend sticking with the well known baking tool brands -- Ateco, Wilton, or Fat Daddio's. "Celebrate It" brand at Michael's is also pretty good quality.
I also recommend building your arsenal piece by piece. It may seem to cost more, but you’ll avoid excess tools collecting dust.
There are too many piping tip set varieties to choose from, I've had this Ateco set for almost 10 years: https://amzn.to/3L4kALN though I don’t often use them in my cake decorating anymore, and I’m certain I haven’t used every tip in this set. This is the equivalent Wilton set: https://amzn.to/3D953bQ
The piping tips I most frequently use are for cupcakes and are actually not in those sets:
Ateco 826: https://amzn.to/3Bpc3jm | Ateco 846: https://amzn.to/3B5VV58 | Wilton 1M: https://amzn.to/3D9MDYi
I do also like Ateco 849 https://amzn.to/3D9MDYi & 829 https://amzn.to/3Bpc3jm
This Ateco set has 846 & 827 (slightly larger than 826) along with other useful larger tips: https://amzn.to/3ATQhmm
For cake assembly, these are my go-to tools:
Offset Spatula Set: https://amzn.to/3TUC9C8
I use this bench scraper for smooth sides: https://amzn.to/3RO7KmY
For turntables, I recommend forgoing the cheaper plastic turntables and investing in a metal one.
I have been using this Ateco turntable (#612) https://amzn.to/3AYLX5l for years, but will soon be upgrading to Ateco #615 https://amzn.to/3d49oCa
