The Pier
The sky is grey, full of gloom
Though all around are trees in bloom
The geese are flying, I hear their squawking
And it’s with you I wish to be talking
The sun has left a dreary day
There’s much to you I want to say
I miss your smile, laugh, and eyes
But most I miss you, with no disguise
I sit here somber on our pier
In disbelief that you’re no longer here
Memories flash like a highlight reel
They say in time these wounds will heal
Tears start flowing, as I begin to cry
I’m joined in solace by the sky
Drops are falling, a rhythmic rain
As if heaven tries to soothe my pain
I knew the strength of my love for you
But this depth of pain is entirely new
What a journey it’s been over the years
I hear your echo of comfort for my tears
Covered in grief, with every tear I shed
I’m reminded of what we always said
We’ll meet again, as we seek His altar
Strengthen myself in the One who’ll never falter
My heart feels you all around me
A connection deeper than one can see
A magnetic pull, like flowers and bees
You’ll always be Henry and I’ll be Louise.
